Aiming to glorify God by calling and equipping people to be fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ.

Meet the Elders

Tom Copperwheat
Tom joined us as our full-time pastor in 2024 having previously served at Limes Avenue Baptist Church in neighbouring Aylesbury for over 10 years. He is married to Abi and they have two young children. Tom’s desire for the church is that people see Akeman Street not as an institution, but as a supernatural family of men, women and young people shaped by the gospel of Jesus Christ, who are seeking to serve him and live for him. In his spare time, Tom enjoys early morning gym sessions, good coffee, and reading anything by J.R.R Tolkien.

Chris Turland
Chris came to the fellowship at Akeman Street when he moved to Tring in 2008.  He loves living in the town and going for walks in the surrounding countryside.  He wants to use his time as an Elder to serve the fellowship and help them to grow in their faith.  Chris is married to Sandra and has four children. His day job is working in the financial services industry in London.  He grew up in nearby Hemel Hempstead, before living in London and Hong Kong.

David Kight
David has been a member at Akeman Street since 2019 after previously being a member of a Baptist church in Dunstable for over 20 years. He wants to point people to what God has done for them and help them to grow in their Christian faith. He recently retired after a career in IT and loves reading Christian books, gentle walking, and supporting Luton Town football club. He lives with his wife Carolyn in a village outside Tring. They have three adult children and several energetic young grandchildren who they love to see as often as possible.

Dan Nash
Dan grew up at Akeman Street. He and his wife Gemma currently live in a village just outside Tring with their four children. Dan enjoys spending time with his family, walks in the local area, climbing mountains, and various things in IT.  He works as a senior IT Manager for an insurance company. Dan loves the fellowship and is keen to serve by helping us all grow in our love for and dependence on our great God, His Word, and each other; and as we shine a light to Jesus.

John Heasman
John is a big fan of all-member ministry and loves to see folk across the church family testing and developing their spiritual gifts as we look to serve and worship Jesus together. He and his wife Christine live in a village close by to Tring and they have five adult children. Originally from London, John continues to loyally support QPR football club through thick and thin. His day job is running a Christian conference charity.
